Seminar 1 (9.30am): Board Appraisal – Why Bother?

In this seminar the Carraghyn team of Chartered Directors will explain and discuss board appraisals with attendees covering points such as:

  • What is the point of a board appraisal? Improvement or meaningless compliance?
  • How it works - the various models of board appraisal and how they're done in practice.
  • Why it fails - the common practices which make board appraisal a waste of time.
  • Why it succeeds - the common practices which make board appraisal work.
  • The advantages and disadvantages of board appraisal - creating a basis for an informed decision.

This seminar will also cover discussion of some related matters including board information, directors induction and director appraisals.

Seminar 2 (2.30pm): Risky Business: just how prepared should your business be?

Ever increasing regulatory and legal responsibilities , not to mention just trying to keep a business afloat in an extremely challenging economic environment, are making more onerous demands on businesses, directors and managers.

Have you considered whether your business has covered its risks? Are you scared or satisfied?

  • What if there was: no electricity, no systems, offices unavailable, an Asian 'flu outbreak, transportation accident, regulatory change, competitor change? The potential list is endless but the important issues need to be identified and dealt with.
  • In this age of reliance on all things electronic, just what would you do if it all fell over? Have you considered the impact and likelihood?
  • What will the likely collapse of the Euro mean to you?
  • What are your liabilities under Bribery & Corruption, Corporate Manslaughter and other international legislation?

The sheer quantity of potential threats is daunting but there is a way to manage this and we will consider some of those aspects during an entertaining, thought provoking and informative presentation.

Seminar 3 (5.30 pm)|: LinkedIn for Your Business

LinkedIn is a social network for businesses and professionals. Despite being a year older than Facebook, and boasting 135 million users, LinkedIn is far less well known than other social networking sites.

LinkedIn pushes all the buttons that professionals and companies need in a social network. This is why all the executives of the Fortune 500 are LinkedIn members. But less than 10% of LinkedIn members use even 50% of the services available – free – from LinkedIn.

This seminar will look at the benefits of the LinkedIn website for businesses with practical examples and all attendees will be provided with a free Kindle eBook (can be viewed on any computer, tablet, smartphone or e-reader) containing the presentation and other practical information of making the most of LinkedIn for business.
